"That was a very traumatic experience for me. There was a feeling of doom and death in that room. It's obvious in the film. I felt I was infringing on their privacy even though they called me to come shoot them; they wanted attention at almost any cost. I felt very uncomfortable as I was doing it. "Unfortunately I shot the scene myself, with only the sound man as my assistant. If I were able to do it again I would have another cameraman help me film it; I would be able to think about the situation much more clearly without having to worry about technical things. If I had had a paparazzo-type cameraman in that room we might have stayed there for hours getting all kinds of crazy things. Sid and Nancy offered to do a sex scene if we paid them some money. The stark sequence at first ran a lot longer in the film. "The impact was lost after a while; I could make a film just about Sid and Nancy with the footage I have, but D.O.A. is structured with most scenes cut rather quickly. I wanted to make sure Sid and Nancy have an impact- the colors, the way we lit it- and that impact is lost after it's been on the screen for a long time; you start getting bored with it.
