 Sid Vicious(1957–1979) _________________________________________________________________________________ John Simon Ritchie (later John Beverley), was raised in London and Ibiza by his drug dealer/ addict mother Anne. In early 1977, he joined the Sex Pistols, and around the same time met Nancy, who'd just arrived from New York. Their relationship wasn't popular with his friends: most of them despised her, and many blamed her for his heroin addiction. But Sid's drug abuse had begun years earlier: he was supposedly taking amphetamines with his mother in his mid- teens. When the Pistols broke up in January 1978, his heroin abuse got worse, and he died from an overdose on February 2, 1979. He was released on bail, but less than 24 hours later, Sid died at Michelle's apartment on Bank Street in New York.
